William Smith, MD, PhD, is a psychiatry resident in the University of Pennsylvania's Department of Psychiatry. His research focuses on ethical issues in psychiatric classification and resource distribution. His work has recently appeared in the Journal of Medical Ethics, AJOB, and the AMA Journal of Ethics, and new work is forthcoming in the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, the Journal of Medical Ethics, and the Oxford Handbook of Research Ethics. He was a Fellow in Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health (2007-2009) and holds a MD from Emory University and a PhD (Philosophy) from the University of Notre Dame.
